Apa Sherpa and his mother were hit by and avalanche while herding yaks when he was just a baby, his mom hiding behind a yak to shelter them from the debris. He ended up on top of the snow, completely unscathed. After the incident, monks would rename him Apa, which means “Loved by All” in Nepali. His positivity and tenacity in the mountains led Apa to a World Record 21 ascents of Mt. Everest. Since he’s retired from climbing, he’s now dedicated to giving back to the region through his foundation.
